When someone searches "security company in Lahore" or "painters near me", Google shows a map with three businesses above every other result. Those three take the overwhelming majority of calls. Everything below is fighting for scraps.
Getting into that block is a different discipline from ordinary SEO, and for most Pakistani businesses it is the highest-return work available.
What Google is actually measuring
Three things, roughly in this order.
Relevance — does your profile clearly say you do this thing? A profile categorised as "Business service" will not rank for security guard searches. The primary category matters more than almost any other single setting.
Distance — how close you are to the searcher. You cannot change this, but you can change which areas you tell Google you serve.
Prominence — how well known and well reviewed you are. This is where most of the winnable ground is: reviews, citations, mentions and a website that backs up the profile.
Fix the profile first
Most Pakistani businesses have a Google Business Profile that was created once and never touched. Work through this properly:
- Claim and verify it. Unverified profiles rank poorly and anyone can suggest edits to them.
- Set the correct primary category. Search what your best-ranking competitor uses. Add secondary categories for your other services, but the primary one carries the weight.
- Add every service as a service item, each with a real description. Most businesses leave this blank entirely.
- Set service areas if you travel to customers. Name the specific towns and districts, not just "Punjab".
- Match your name, address and phone number exactly to what appears on your website and directories. "Ltd" on one and "Limited" on another is a real problem.
- Upload genuine photographs — your team, your vehicles, completed work. Stock images do nothing.
- Fill in the hours, including holidays. Profiles showing "hours may differ" get skipped.
Reviews are the lever most businesses ignore
Review count and recency both feed prominence, and reviews are the single most persuasive thing a first-time customer reads.
Build the request into your process rather than doing it in bursts. The moment a job is completed and the customer is happy is the only moment they will actually write one. Send a WhatsApp message with the direct review link — not a request to "search for us on Google".
Reply to every review, including the bad ones. A calm, specific reply to a complaint reassures the next reader far more than a wall of five stars.
Build the pages the profile points at
A profile linking to a generic homepage underperforms one linking to a page about that exact service in that exact city.
If you serve five areas, you need five pages, each with genuinely different content: local landmarks, real projects completed there, area-specific pricing or turnaround. Five near-identical pages with the city name swapped will be recognised as doorway pages and ignored.
Citations and consistency
Get listed on the directories that matter in Pakistan — Yellow Pages Pakistan, Locanto, Pakbiz, Google, Bing Places, Apple Maps — plus any trade body relevant to your industry. Use exactly the same business name, address and phone number every time. Consistency is the point, not volume.
What to expect and when
Local SEO moves faster than national SEO. Realistically:
- Weeks 1–3 — profile fixes and page work go live
- Weeks 4–8 — first visible movement in map rankings for less competitive terms
- Months 3–6 — competitive city-level terms, provided reviews and content keep accumulating
The common mistakes
Keyword-stuffing your business name (Google removes it and may suspend the profile), buying fake reviews (increasingly detected and penalised), using a virtual office address, letting the profile go silent for months, and pointing the website link at a homepage that never mentions the city.
Questions people ask
How long does local SEO take in Pakistan?
Profile improvements often show within four to eight weeks. Competitive city-level keywords generally need three to six months of consistent reviews, content and citations.
Can I rank without a physical address?
Yes, as a service-area business. You hide the address and list the areas you travel to. You do need a genuine address to verify, and virtual offices are a common cause of suspension.
Do reviews really affect rankings?
Yes — both the number and how recently they were left feed into prominence, and they heavily influence whether someone chooses you over the other two results.
